What does a heart mean to a Sigma Kappa? It is not only our symbol, but it represents the love we have for all of our sisters.
National Wear RED Day was held last week – on February 3rd. What am I talking about? The American Heart Association’s “Go RED For Women” campaign.
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in our country.
Heart disease does not care how nice you are. It does not care where you live. It will affect those who have a genetic predisposition, and those who we all thought were fine because they “looked healthy”.
The American Heart Association offers amazing articles and tips on how you can improve your cardiovascular health to avoid heart attacks and stroke. Check out their website here.
I have listed some friendly reminders of how you and your family can prevent heart disease:
- Exercise and average of 30min per day (fit it in when you can and make it count)
- Manage your diet, even small changes can help
- Quit smoking and/or avoid breathing secondhand smoke
We are all bound together through Sigma Kappa, and when you think about what a heart means to us, it is more than a symbol or color. On February 3rd, I did indeed wear RED…for my sisters!
Live on Purpose and Live Sigma Kappa.
