Sigma Kappa HeartCan you believe February’s already almost over? I hope everyone enjoyed celebrating Valentine’s Day with a special someone, whether it was a spouse, boyfriend, significant other, or just sharing some Dove Love with your sisters. But should there really be such a focus on a single day of love? Valentine’s Day might have come and gone but that doesn’t mean you can’t keep the spirit of love in the air.

Not to brag to the world about my wonderful boyfriend, but something he did gave me the idea for this blog. Instead of waiting for Valentine’s Day to give me a gift, he surprised me more than a week prior with a necklace “just because.” And to top it off, since he knew I was stressed with work and who knows what else, he planned a non-Valentine’s related, special day for the two of us.

And it got me thinking – why do we wait for a pre-designed occasion for a quick, romantic moment? I know I get so caught up in everyday life sometimes that I forget to share the love with those around me. So without further ado, here are some simple things you can do to sweeten the day for your year-round Valentine…

1) Dinner for two. When my life gets busy, usually the first thing to go is the sit-down, home-cooked meal. But without it, you lose the chance to catch up about your day and spend that quality time together. Surprise your Valentine with a simple homemade dinner, and then add a romantic flair with some candlelight and a glass of wine (or two) for an unforgettable meal.

Love Note Post It

2) Leave a love letter. Remember when you were little and your parents would write you little notes in your lunch box? Love letters don’t need to be long and intricate – they just need to show you care. When I left on a business trip earlier this month, I left Post-it notes with quick, cute little love notes in random places around the house. It barely took any time at all and he loved finding them in fun places like his sock drawer, briefcase and right shoe!

3) Surprise date night. Date night doesn’t need to be meticulously planned to be romantic and fun. In fact, my favorite date nights have been the impromptu ideas that took basically no planning at all! Movie night in has always been a favorite of mine, whether with my boyfriend or my Sig Kap girls. And how often do you go star gazing? Bring some blankets and bundle up together for a cheap and lovely night out. You’ll literally be starry-eyed!
